great day on the water 18 albacore in the box

It was a good day on the water yesterday we got 18 albacore tuna for 4 people. I already have the first batch of 24 pint jars in the pressure cooker and another batch ready to go. And i still have about 2 dozen steaks in the freezer. I wont be buying tuna for a long time.We plan on making another trip next week.If anyone is in the bay area PM me for some fresh tuna next week.we found the fish about 67 miles offshore for any other tuna hunters near GumDrop (underwater mountain)

Going spearfishing off the cost of Florida the next couple weekends.
I have no idea what to expect to bring home or if it will last past the night but it will be fun!

We could not find the hard temperature break in the water. caught most in 59.6 deg water warmest water we could find was 60.8 deg . All the thermal maps we pulled up the night before were no good they were all wrong. We have had better days but a bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work.

How deep was the vis? Jigs or Chovies?

We caught most on the troll and the rest were on live anchovies. The water was clear and a dark blue.

Were blue out of Westport at about 50 miles. On those days you can easily get 50 feet of vis straight down.
Everybody here is hot on the tails of the Kings, Silvers (coho) or Humpy's (pinks). I don't get too excited about Salmon anymore as I used to fill a chest freezer to the rim every year of Silvers, Kings and Sea Run Cuttrhoat.
I prefer the Lings these days and Tuna but can still get into The Sea Run Cuts and Steelhead.
I use to have a smoker going nearly all spring and fall long but not so much anymore.

I wish i could catch some salmon the tree hugger cut off our salmon season 3 years ago. I have a few lings in the freezer also I give the other rock cod I catch to my neighbors.I feed a lot of families that live near me. I will always share my catch but when the time comes don't even think about my preps.
